Sagula Announces Schedule Changes As Team Begins Conference Play

Sept. 26, 2002

Carolina brings a 12-1 record and a No. 15 national ranking into Friday night's 7 p.m. match vs. NC State. Carolina has not lost to State in the team's last 10 meetings, and has a 60-5 record in Carmichael in the last five seasons, with only two losses to unranked opponents.

The team will also be looking to extend its winning streak to seven games in conference openers, while NC State has not won its ACC opener since 1996.

Notes:

  • North Carolina brings a six match home winning streak to Friday's match. The team has a .923 winning percentage at home in the last five years.

  • Senior Laura Greene is now fourth all-time in school history with 1,227 career digs, and is 10 away from tying with Liz Berg (1987-90) for third. The record is 1,258, held by Katie Galloway (1992-1994). At her current pace of 3.81 per game, she will break the record in her next three or four matches.

  • Senior Eve Rackham has already climbed to third all-time on the career assists list with 4,607, and is 906 assists behind Sherri Vogel (1985-88) for second. Rackham is also approaching the 1,000 dig plateau, needing just 10 digs to reach the mark

  • Senior Holly Strauss had moved up to third all-time at Carolina with 307 block assists. She needs 33 more to move up to second all-time, passing Amber Willey (1993-1996).

  • One of the strengths of the team this season has been their serving. Carolina holds and edge over its opponents 91-46 in service aces. Five Tar Heel starters are in double-digits, and the team is third in the ACC with two per game.

  • No one on NC State's bench has ever won vs. the Tar Heels. NC State is 0-10 in its last 10 matches vs. Carolina.

  • The Tar Heels hold the all-time series edge over the Wolfpack, 56-27.
