# 13 Carolina wins 12th Straight at Home; Tops Clemson 3-0


Greene records 20 kills for third consecutive match

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.-Senior outside hitter Laura Greene recorded 20 kills for the third straight match as No. 13 North Carolina topped Clemson 3-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference action Saturday night. Carolina (23-2, 10-1) won 30-27, 30-26, 30-25 to remain perfect at home (12-0) in 2002.

Greene led the Tar Heels with 22 kills and 14 digs while hitting .404 in the match. Senior Holly Strauss and sophomore Molly Pyles also had solid offensive nights. Strauss hit .455 with 12 kills while Pyles hit. 433 with 14 kills. Senior setter Eve Rackham picked up 55 assists and sophomore libero Caroline deRoeck had 13 digs.

With the first game tied 7-7, Greene, Strauss (2) and Rackham put down four consecutive kills to give the Tar Heels an 11-7 edge. Clemson closed the gap to one point at 23-22, but after one of the longest rallies of the night Rackham and junior middle hitter Aletha Green combined for a key block that returned the momentum to the side of the home team. Carolina held onto the lead from there, with Greene and Pyles each recording seven kills in the 30-27 win.

In the second game, Green matched her Game 1 output with seven kills. Rackham also spread the ball to the middle more, with Strauss and sophomore middle hitter Katie Wright each picking up five kills in the game. With Carolina up 6-4, a pair of Pyles' kills fueled a 6-0 run that put the match out of reach for the Tigers, who would never trail by less than three points for the rest of the game before freshman outside hitter Dani Nyenhuis tallied the 30th point.

In the third game, Clemson Came out to an early 5-2 lead and would hold off the Tar Heels until back-to-back kill by Greene gave Carolina its first lead of the final game, 18-17. The Tar Heels ran away from the Tigers, with Greene sealing the 30-25 win for Carolina with a kill. The UNC block came alive in the final game with Strauss's three block assists leading the team.

Clemson setter Jessi Betcher recored her 5,000th career assist in the third game. Now with 5,016 (Eighth All-Time in the ACC), she trails Rackham who has 5,155 and is sixth all time in the ACC.

Carolina is next in action next Friday, Nov. 8 traveling to Duke at 7:30 p.m.
