November 21, 2002
No. 12 North Carolina earned Player of the Year, Coach of the Year and three all-ACC selections this week as the ACC released its postseason honors in preparation for the ACC Tournament, which begins today in Atlanta.
Senior outside hitter Laura Greene was named ACC Player of the Year and All-ACC first team, and Coach Joe Sagula earned Coach of the Year honors. Along with Greene, senior setter Eve Rackham was named to the first team and sophomore outside hitter Molly Pyles was named to the second team. The awards are voted on by the league's nine head coaches.
Greene recorded 21 double-doubles and was twice named conference Player of the Week this season. She is the fourth North Carolina player to win this award and the first since Erin Berg in 1998.
Sagula earns Coach of the Year honors for the second time in his career at UNC, with the last coming in 1998. This season the Tar Heels have the best overall winning percentage (.933) ever for an ACC team.
