Senior Earns First All-America In Program History

Dec. 23, 2002

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.-Senior outside hitter Laura Greene was named an AVCA All-America by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Greene, a third-team selection, is the first All-America in program history and just the third in the history of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Greene, the ACC Player of the Year and a AVCA First-Team All-Region selection, holds school records for career attempts and career digs. This season she recorded 536 kills and 487 digs to lead the Tar Heels. She finished the year second in the ACC with 4.47 kills and 4.02 digs per game.

This season the Tar Heels made history with the program's first ever Sweet 16 selection and also a ranking as high as 11th in the USA Today/AVCA Coaches' Poll, the best ever for an ACC team.

The selections are made by the AVCA Division I All-America Committee. Lynnette Moster of Georgia Tech (2002) and Cindy Stern of Clemson (1999) are the only other All-Americas from the ACC - both second-team selections.
