MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.-The No. 20 North Carolina volleyball team's bid for the best start in program history was thwarted at the hands of No. 13 Minnesota, which beat the Tar Heels in the final game of the University of Minnesota Nike Invitational, 3-0, Saturday night.
Carolina (8-1) fell to the Gophers (10-2) in three games, 22-30, 20-30, 26-20.
The Tar Heels were led in the tournament by sophomore Katie Wright and senior Holly Strauss, a pair of middle hitters who were both named to the all-tournament team. In the final vs. Minnesota, Wright recorded 10 kills, while Strauss notched nine kills and two blocks. Senior outside hitter Laura Greene also had 10 kills and 13 digs, while sophomore Caroline deRoeck picked up 12 digs in the match.
Carolina is next in action this Tuesday as the Tar Heels host Davidson in Carmichael Auditorium at 7 p.m.
