Sagula Picks Up Win No. 250 at Carolina

Chapel Hill, N.C.-Head Coach Joe Sagula picked up his 250th win with the Tar Heels as No. 18 North Carolina topped the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers 3-0 Saturday night.

Sagula, in his 13th season, has a 250-158 record at North Carolina and an overall mark of 453-282 in 22 years of coaching.

Carolina came out strong in the first game, winning 30-18. The Scarlet Knights picked up the first point of the match, but that would be their last lead of the game. Down the stretch, the Tar Heels went on a 10-5 run, clinching the match thanks to five kills by both Laura Greene and Katie Wright. Greene also picked up eight kills in the game.

Wright again led the Tar Heels in the second game, posting six kills. Eve Rackham's play was also key to the 30-25 win as she picked up 16 assists. Greene again led the Tar Heels defensively with seven digs, and also clinched the match with a kill on the 30th point.

Carolina won game three 30-23 and was led offensively by Aletha Green, who recorded five kills.

Wright was the only Tar Heel to record double-digit kills with 11, while Shayla Bush was the only Scarlet Knight in double-digits with 10 kills. Greene led the Tar Heels with 15 digs.

UNC is next in action Tuesday at 7 p.m. on the road at Charlotte.
