CHAPEL HILL, N.C.- No. 12 North Carolina swept Maryland 3-0 Sunday afternoon in Carmichael Auditorium on Senior Day. The team improves to 15-0 at home the season and has won seven in a row.
The Tar Heels improved to 28-2, 15-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, while Maryland fell to 18-13, 7-9. This is the Tar Heels most ACC regular season wins ever and the best conference winning percentage since schools began playing each other twice in 1993.
The Tar Heel seniors each had solid performances, with outside hitter Malaika Underwood leading the way with 13 kills, a .574 hitting percentage and 10 digs. Senior outside hitter Laura Greene added 13 kills, a .303 hitting percentage and 10 digs as well. Setter Eve Rackham had 44 assists and 10 digs in her final ACC home match, while middle hitter Holly Strauss had seven kills, a .500 hitting percentage and five blocks.
In the match the Tar Heels out-hit Maryland .321-.102.
The team is next in action Fri., Nov. 22 at 1:30 p.m. in the ACC Tournament vs. the winner of NC State vs. Virginia. The Tar Heels are the top seed in the tournament, which will be held in Atlanta, Ga.
